The 411

Tom Pelphrey exploded onto the soap scene in the summer of 2004 and instantly charmed viewers and snakes alike. (His own boa constrictor, Mitch, played Jonathan's on-screen pet, Lou.) Although the GL role was Pelphrey's first professional job, his co-workers quickly fell under his spell, too, and often praised his raw, natural talent and generous disposition to others.

A New Jersey native, Pelphrey became involved in his high school theater program, which led him to pursue conservatory theater training at Rutgers University. A CBS casting associate saw him in a school-related theater showcase, and a few months later, Pelphrey met with GL Casting Director Rob Decina. Although Kim Zimmer, who played his biological mother, Reva, initially did not want Pelphrey to be cast as her son, she quickly changed her mind and declared that his dynamic performances kept her at the top of her game. Pelphrey returned to GL for a number of summer 2007 episodes, and he brought Jonathan (and baby Sarah) back to Springfield again in January 2008.

Pelphrey remains close to his mom, Laurie, and his younger brother, Bobby, and often returns to New Jersey to visit them. At the set, Pelphrey formed tight friendships with many co-stars, including Doug Hutchison (ex-Sebastian), with whom he journeyed to London for New Year's to ring in 2005.

Memorable Quotes

"I had to do a few scenes where I was wearing nothing but a sock on my whatever. So, I wanted to give a shout-out, let them know I was a company man, so I put a 'P' on this cheek and a 'G' on that cheek and gave them a little calendar shot [laughs]." — Soap Opera Digest, 1/11/05

"I bought a bag that you carry a puppy in, but the other day I was riding the PATH train on my way in to work and I guess I didn't zip it all the way shut. The people across from me had this look of terror on their faces. I look over and Mitch is shooting right up, checking everybody out. He's harmless, really." — Digest, 1/11/05
