THE 411
Sean Kanan's interest in show biz began in high school, where he participated in stage productions and performed in area comedy clubs. He went on to Boston University as a political science major, but continued to study acting. Kanan relocated to Los Angeles and got a role in the low-budget horror flick Hide And Go Shriek in 1988 and The Karate Kid III in 1989. In 1993, Kanan got his first steady daytime gig as GENERAL HOSPITAL black sheep AJ Quartermaine, a role he played until 1997. Two years later, he resurfaced on SUNSET BEACH as Jude and in 2000 shook up BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL as smarmy, tormented Deacon Sharpe.
The actor, who specializes in bad boys, has had his share of real-life tribulations, including substance abuse, an abrupt dismissal from GH, divorce and persistent rumors of a relapse.
A long-time martial arts enthusiast, he blows off steam and keeps in shape with kickboxing, and advocates martial arts as a way of maintaining balance, strength, confidence, discipline and overall health. Kanan also lifts weights, which helps combat an admitted weakness for pizza and McDonalds Filet-O-Fish sandwiches.
In addition to acting, Kanan writes and produces. In 2001, he produced and acted in March and Chasing Holden, serving as head writer on the latter film as well. He also continues to perform stand-up comedy.
