THE 411
Ron Raines' love for singing came at an early age. Growing up in Texas, he was the oldest of three children. His father was a judge and minister, his mother a newspaper employee. Raines sang in the church choir and glee club — probably before he could talk. He attended Southern Nazarene University before transferring to and graduating from Oklahoma City University in 1975 with a Bachelor's degree in music. After graduation he got a summer stock job in Brunswick, Maine, and was able to spend the next 20 years travelling the country doing opera and musical theater.
Raines has spent most of his life in the theater, and met his wife, Dona D. Vaughn, while doing a production at the Smithsonian in 1981. She was the villainess and he was the hero in a production of Rose Marie. They married in 1996, and their daughter, Charlotte, was born Feb. 13, 1989.
Raines sought work in New York so he could be close to his family. The opportunity came in 1994 when he did something he thought he would never do: He auditioned for a soap opera. He won the role of Alan Spaulding on GUIDING LIGHT.
His flexible daytime schedule has allowed Raines to pursue opera and musical theater workshops when his storyline permits. He has also stretched his vocal chords singing at games for the New York Knicks, New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils, and belted tunes on his two solo albums, Broadway Passion and So in Love with Broadway.

MEMORABLE QUOTES
"I've worked with Debbie Reynolds, Julie Prowse, Cleo Laine. I always loved being the leading man to the star leading lady, because I know how to do that well. I let her do all the hard work, and I just make her look good, seem pretty, act and then go home. It's less pressure. And they're all great ladies, too." — Soap Opera Weekly, 8/23/94
"All these pages of dialogue, every day. I live with these scripts, always trying to figure out what my next line is. If I'm told I'm working four days in a certain week, I'm using the other three days to prepare for the next four-day period. I quickly realized this a a seven-day-a-week job." — Weekly, 12/20/94
"My dreams, I've fulfilled. I have done what I love to do. Now it's about seeing our daughter discover her goals and make sure that we’re preparing her in every way to go through her journey." — Weekly, 9/28/99
