The 411

Rob Bogue was born in Nebraska, but was raised in Kansas and Kentucky. While attending Colorado College, where he played basketball, he met director Sydney Pollack, the father of a classmate, and was intrigued by the idea of acting for a living. After graduating, he moved to New York to pursue acting.

In New York, he took acting classes, but didn't get his first break until 1990, when he was cast as Molly Ringwald's boyfriend in the Bob Dylan video for "Unbelievable."

Nine years later, Bogue spent two years on the show OZ as prisoner Jason Cramer. He was written out when he landed his own TV show. The Sci Fi Channel picked up 22 episodes of the show, under the condition that Bogue stay as lead and have creative control throughout the run. Then suddenly, Steven Spielberg called, determined to cast Bogue in his own show. Spielberg even offered to fly him back and forth from Canada to California so he could do both shows. Sadly, that didn't work out and right before he was supposed to start filming the Sci Fi show, the production company went bankrupt.

Bogue had to start from the beginning, landing commercials and bit roles on TV shows. Finally, he was recast in the temporary role of GL's A.C. Mallet. Originally, the character was only supposed to stick around for three months while Harley was in prison, but Bogue so impressed the show and the fans that he was offered a long-term contract.

—The A.C. in Mallet's name stands for Anthony Camaletti.

Memorable Quotes

I feel at home shooting scenes behind bars." — On comparing his OZ experience to being a prison warden on GL, Soap Opera Digest, 8/2/05

"You are always haunted by whether they want an imitation, and there's a lot of people who like what [Mark Derwin's] interpretation was. You don't have the luxury of being haunted by that for too long." — On being a recast as GL's Mallet, Digest, 8/2/05

"We try to sharpen the dialogue up a bit, or try to raise the stakes to add as much comedy as we can to try to get that locker room banter going." — On improvising dialogue with Ricky Paull Goldin (Gus), Digest, 2/7/06
