The 411

Though he was born in Chicago, Richard Steinmetz's family moved to Seattle when he was 5 years old. By seventh grade, he realized he was meant to act. After graduating from high school, Steinmetz played for the Portland Timbers soccer team. His interest in baseball and football led him in the direction of sports broadcasting until he decided to take serious action toward an acting career. He relocated to New York, and after several plays, he landed the role of Jeff Hartman on LOVING in 1988. Though the gig didn't last more than two years, he stretched out his popularity overseas, where he did promotions for the soap. Eventually, he landed in Los Angeles, where he coaches high school football. After appearing on several prime-time shows and in movies, Steinmetz scored with the contract role of the long-lost Martin Fitzgerald on PASSIONS in spring, 2004. He was dropped to recurring status in September 2006, and left the show shortly afterwards.
