THE 411
Born John-Paul Seponski in Phoenixville, Pa., Lavoisier chose his new name after reading about Antoine Lavoisier in a science textbook while attending Phoenixville High School. He went on to enroll in Philadelphia's University of the Arts, where he studied music performance. Although he started out specializing in percussion, Lavoisier followed the beat of his own drum and pursued acting at The School for Film and Television and Michael Howard Studios, both in New York. Laviosier also studied privately with Deborah Mathieu-Byers.
His role as ONE LIFE TO LIVE's Rex Balsom is his first major acting job and his first contract role, though he previously played a model on SEX AND THE CITY and an orderly on ALL MY CHILDREN. Additionally, he is very involved in theater. A member of the Street Light Productions theater company in Manhattan, Lavoisier still acts on stage whenever his busy soap schedule allows. In 2007 he worked on the film Placebo.

SAY ANYTHING
"I don't get suburban life. I don't like yards. I hate driving; if I never drive a car again, I would die a happy man."—Soap Opera Weekly, 9/17/02
"The whole actors dating other famous actors and who's with Angelina this week, I don't care. It doesn't interest me. I just want to go to work, do what I love and go home. I'm not gonna run for office. I don't want to be a governor one day. I would take a third of Philip Seymour Hoffman's or Paul Giamatti's career over twice the career or Tom Cruise in a second, because it's more interesting to me."—Soap Opera Digest, 8/8/06
"I'm very content with what they write for me and I never change what they write for me. I add the way Rex pronounces the words and the volume. Sometimes I'll change my voice to make it a little funnier or whatever, but I say what's on the page."—Digest, 3/13/07
