The 411

Born the third of seven children, Daniel Cosgrove did not catch the acting bug until he was an adult. Painfully shy as a child and adolescent, Cosgrove excelled at sports, not public speaking, at his all-boys Catholic high school. He spent three semesters at a small Catholic college before taking time off. During that break, he became a bailiff at a local court. He soon realized that he wanted to try his hand at acting, so he began commuting to New York for weekly acting classes while working in the court system during the day.

He dabbled in modeling, but quickly got out of that business. He relocated to New York and within six months got his first big break: a role on ALL MY CHILDREN. After two years on the soap, he moved on to BEVERLY HILLS, 90210, where he also remained for two years. From 2000-2002, Cosgrove appeared in numerous flicks, including They Crawl, Van Wilder and TV movie SATAN'S SCHOOL FOR GIRLS, as well as the TV series ALL SOULS. In the summer of 2002, he landed the role of Bill.

Cosgrove met Marie in the mid-90s when he was a waiter and she was a hostess at a Manhattan eatery. Two years later, — and less than a month after his snagged his AMC gig — Cosgrove proposed right before attending the ABC Christmas party.

After being written off to Venezuela on Lewis Oil business in 2005, Cosgrove brought an edgier, more devious Bill back to Springfield in November 2007.

Et Cetera

—Known on-set as one of GL's funniest people.

Look Who's Talking

"[Marie] was with me when I was struggling; I thought [getting engaged] would be a great way to let her know I love and appreciate her."— Soap Opera Digest, 8/19/97

"If you want to write [about me], 'He's an interesting as roadkill,' well, I can't control that."— Digest, 10/08/02

"[McCouch] called me up; he was a little weepy. [ATWT] was interested, he's like, 'I think I'm going to pass.' And he passed because he can do that. He's like, 'I have this big movie coming out with Louis Gossett, Jr. It's going to blow up big-time, put me back on the map.' He calls me a few months later and says, 'You need a brother on your show?' So, I put my feelers out there, word is on the street. [ATWT] says, 'We gotta do what we gotta do to get him.' And they did."— Digest, 8/19/03
