Jealous Sami planted a kiss on EJ as Nicole watched. Then she backed off, ran into the pub, and asked for a drink. Caroline wondered what was wrong. Sami said she needed to talk to Lucas and pulled out her cell phone. Outside, Nicole told EJ that Sami had behaved like a jealous lunatic. EJ was delighted. Nicole went on about Sami being selfish and insecure and someone who would do anything to get what she wanted. She'd only cause EJ heartache and grief. EJ wondered why Nicole wanted to keep him and Sami apart. Nicole said she cared because EJ is her lawyer. EJ wondered if Nicole might be jealous of his feelings for Sami. Nicole insisted she wasn't and walked off. Sami hung up her cell phone upset and told Caroline that Lucas wouldn't talk to her. EJ entered, approached Sami, and asked if he could help. He told Caroline that Sami was desperate to hold on to what she had with Lucas. Sami said what she had with Lucas is true love, something EJ would never know and stormed off. Caroline asked if EJ did something to upset Sami. EJ swore he hadn't and filled Caroline in on Sami's antics earlier. Caroline said Sami loved and missed Lucas. The only reason EJ was part of Sami's life is because Lucas couldn't be. EJ pondered it all.
Sami returned to the mansion and thanked Rolf for helping with the twins. She asked him what he thought of EJ. Rolf believed EJ was becoming his own person, although he didn't know if that was bad or good. Sami admitted she thought EJ was trying. She questioned Rolf about John and Marlena. Did he think they'd get back together? Rolf said there was about as much chance of them reuniting as there was of Sami getting rid of Lucas and falling in love with EJ. As Rolf left, EJ entered. Sami said she was ready for bed and headed upstairs.
Henderson delivered a package to Philip, who opened it and took out the disc swiped from the DiMera mansion. Philip popped it into his computer and discovered it was encrypted. He phoned Titan's computer division as Chloe interrupted. Philip asked where Brady was, surprised he hadn't returned with her. Chloe explained Brady was still in rehab and blamed her for his addiction. In fact, he wanted a divorce. Chloe admitted she and Brady never stood a chance. There was only one person to blame for their breakup, and she and Philip both know who that was. Chloe insisted she tried to get Brady help, but he refused. Then, Victor got involved. She said she'd never forgive him for the way he let her and everyone else suffer. Chloe conceded she was back to get even with Victor. "And what better way to stick it to him than by going from his grandson to his son," noted Philip. Chloe told Philip to get over himself. Philip invited Chloe to stay at the mansion. She agreed, having nowhere else to go. Then, she reconsidered Philip's idea about how to get even with Victor, ripping open his shirt and kissing him. Just then, Nicole interrupted.
Chelsea told Daniel she knew he was leaving Salem because of his wife, but was hoping to convince him to stay. Daniel rejected the idea, insisting what happened with his wife had nothing to do with her. Chelsea pressed that Daniel feared she might die like his wife did. Daniel maintained he couldn't make the same mistake twice. Chelsea realized why Daniel wandered around the way he did. If he stayed in one place long enough, he might actually find real happiness. Daniel said he wasn't going to change who he was. Chelsea said he could, if he wanted to. Then, she pulled Daniel into a kiss. "Don't tell me you didn't feel anything," she said. Daniel admitted he did, that was the problem, and left. "That's all I needed to know," purred Chelsea.

Stephanie found Max on the docks and said she wanted to know about Nick's grant proposal and what Max did to it. Max insisted he only fixed it; he didn't redo it. Max tried to change the subject with a kiss. Steph didn't go for it and pressed Max for the truth. Max wouldn't budge. Steph stormed off, while Max flashed back to his visit to his Pop's grave and telling him how Nick made mistakes on occasion.
At the pub, Alicia, one of Nick's students, told him his proposal had been submitted. She worked at the dean's office and saw it come in. Steve joined EJ at a table. After some chitchat about not trusting EJ, Steve suggested getting on with business. EJ handed Steve an envelope filled with cash, as a goon watched. Steph walked in, said hi to Steve, and went over to Nick. She asked about his prototype proposal. Nick said one of his students told him it was at the dean's office. Max walked in, and Nick noted his proposal was a mess and incomplete. He wondered why someone would send it in. Max played dumb. Patch left the pub. The goon followed. Eventually, Steph fessed up to Nick about what Max had done. Nick demanded to know why. Max insisted he just cleaned up and copied the grant. Nick was furious and stormed off. Alone, Steph asked Max to tell her why he really did this. He wouldn't talk, so Steph left.
At the cop shop, Bo and Roman were discussing Vitali's hit on Earl when Sami barged in. She told Roman that Lucas had refused to see her when she went to visit him in prison. Sami said she had to talk to him before she did something stupid. (Flashback to her kissing EJ.) She begged Roman to convince Lucas to see her. Later, Roman noted he'd talked to Lucas, who said he didn't want to see Sami, but might call her. A cop entered holding a copy of an e-mail from Lucas to Sami. Sami read it and sobbed as Lucas admitted he loved her, but wanted her to forget him and move on. Sami returned home to find EJ. She said she hadn't slept the night before. EJ wondered if it was because of their kiss. Sami didn't want to talk about it. EJ mentioned how sad Sami looked and offered to give her a hug. Sami cried and decided to head off for a walk. As she left, Sami heard EJ's cell phone ring. When she heard him greet Nicole, she stopped in her tracks.
Hope prepared to take Kayla for her check-up. Kayla noted how overprotective Steve was being, because he was sure Martino would use her to get back at him. At the hospital, Kayla and Hope bumped into Angelo and Ava, after Ava told Angelo she'd been given a clean bill of health and was ready to start living again. Ava thanked Kayla for treating her and wished her well at her appointment. When Hope and Kayla left, Angelo admonished Ava for thanking Kayla. Patch was the reason she'd had so many problems. Martino thought so, too. Ava asked if her father was going after Patch, but Angelo said he didn't think so. Later, Kayla and Hope were at Bo and Hope's house. Kayla complained about being put on permanent bed rest. Hope assured her it was for the best. When Hope left to fetch some tea, Kayla began cramping.
Angelo and Ava arrived at the pub. Ava wondered how Angelo knew about her doctor's appointment. She asked Angelo why he was keeping tabs on her. Angelo admitted Ava's father was worried about her. She said she knew Angelo was keeping something from her and wanted to know what it was. Angelo admitted Martino wanted him to keep Ava busy. Something was going down, and he didn't want Ava to get hurt.
At the docks, the goon who followed Steve trained his gun on him, while Steve played his harmonica. Steve phoned Bo, said he was catching some rays, and would see him later. Bo hung up and told Roman that Steve was in trouble.

Sami arrived at the mansion as EJ headed out to the gym. She asked Marlena to watch the twins so she could go, too. Marlena found John on the phone talking to a security company about the recent break-in. Daniel barged in, anxious to talk to Marlena alone. Marlena asked John to leave. Daniel told Marlena about his deceased wife and how he was hesitant to get involved again — especially with a patient. Yet, it was happening. He asked Marlena how to shut off his feelings. Marlena cautioned feelings of love couldn't be shut off. Daniel just had to decide whether or not to act on those feelings. Daniel thanked her and left. John returned, and the conversation turned back to the break-in. Marlena said she had Roman looking into the case.
Philip and Chloe were dining at Chez Rouge when Nicole arrived and joined them. Nicole learned Victor was at the opera, which surprised her. Chloe explained there was a time Victor was going to build an opera house in Salem in memory of Isabella and Chloe was going to be the main draw. Nicole doubted Isabella would have approved of Brady's slutty wife performing there. The two gals traded barbs. Then, Nicole got on Philip's case for jumping Chloe's body last night. Suddenly, Nicole's phone barked. It was her new Pookie ring tone. It was EJ inviting her to the gym. Nicole left. Alone, Chloe told Philip that Nicole was right. They couldn't think about messing around; she was married. Philip urged Chloe to let go and kissed her. Chloe pulled away. Philip said Chloe couldn't deny what was between them, but she did and split.
At the pub, Angelo told Ava that Martino and the guys were taking care of Patch. Ava freaked and called her father, saying she needed to talk, now. Meanwhile, Chelsea asked Kate for advice on how to get a guy to realize he loves her. Chelsea explained how Daniel blamed himself for his wife's death. Kate warned Chelsea to steer clear of Daniel, noting she'd get hurt. Chelsea questioned Kate's advice. After all, she'd been running around with Martino Vitali. Kate swore Martino was just an old friend. Martino entered on cue, walked over to Ava, and swore he wasn't going to do anything to Patch. Ava didn't buy it and told him to call off his plans. Daniel walked in and sat down with Chelsea. He told her he'd talked to a shrink, but still had no answers about them. Nonetheless, they weren't happening. Chelsea said she wasn't going to chase Daniel, and told him to call her when he realized how great they could be together.
Hope was serving Kayla tea when Bo called and told her Steve was in trouble at the pier. Hope said she'd be right there and left, not telling Kayla why. On the docks, Steve paced as the goon
aimed his rifle at him. Just as the goon realized he had a clear shot, Bo pointed a gun at his head and said he was under arrest. Hope handcuffed him. Steve asked if Kayla suspected anything. Hope said no, and Steve raced off to his wife. Back at the house, Kayla grew tired of resting, got up, and was hit with intense cramps.
EJ pumped iron at the gym while Sami ran on a treadmill and Chris (Ross the Intern) jogged next to her. Nicole arrived and greeted EJ, then told Sami that EJ invited her there. When EJ and Nicole headed to the steam room, Sami told Chris she hated Nicole and asked him to eavesdrop on them. Chris obliged. Inside, Nicole and EJ kissed. EJ admitted Nicole was very tempting, but he loved Sami. Nevertheless, they kissed some more. After listening outside the door, Chris rushed back to Sami and said it sounded like Nicole and EJ were really making out. Sami headed over to the steam room, but decided to leave.
Bo busted into the pub and confronted Martino, announcing he was under arrest for two counts of murder and the attempted murder of Steve Johnson.

In the steam room, EJ stopped kissing Nicole because he felt like he was cheating on Sami. Nicole backed off, humiliated. EJ said he loved Sami. Nicole told him Sami would never care for him, because she loved Lucas. Once Lucas wandered back into Sami's life, EJ would be a ghost. EJ said he had a plan and went on about the prison's overcrowding problem and how they were releasing some prisoners on house arrest. He'd talked to the warden about having Lucas be one of them. EJ said he'd have a better chance winning Sami's affections with Lucas out of prison than with her pining away after him.
Sami stormed into the mansion ranting about the arrogant, slut-chasing EJ, as Rolf listened. They had a child together, but Sami didn't have to like him. Rolf asked if Sami's heart didn't go a little pitter-patter over EJ. Sami swore she had no feelings for him. Rolf revealed he'd heard EJ talking to the warden about having Lucas released from prison early. Sami wondered why EJ would do that. EJ returned home. Sami asked about Nicole. EJ swore nothing happened between them. Sami asked EJ to explain why he was trying to get Lucas out of prison. EJ insisted it was to make Sami happy. Sami wished EJ had been thinking about that when Johnny was conceived. She couldn't look at her son without remembering that night. EJ admitted he was deeply ashamed about what he'd done. He'd made love to Sami because of the way he felt about her and thought she felt the same way. "I told you that I loved Lucas," countered Sami, noting she still had emotional scars from the rape. EJ knew what he did was inexcusable; it's why he'd worked so hard to change. He hoped to have a clean slate with Sami, one day. The conversation turned back to Nicole. EJ reiterated nothing happened, because he told Nicole he loved Sami. On cue, a drunken Nicole barged in and made a move on EJ. Sami shoved Nicole out the door and slammed it. Sami warned EJ to stay away from Nicole and kissed him passionately. Sami then pulled away and ran upstairs.
At the docks, Max apologized to Stephanie for lying to her about Nick's grant. Steph realized Max was trying to help Nick, but wondered why he couldn't have told her. Max said things were weird with him and Nick and said he never wanted to lie to Steph again. The pair kissed and made up. Later, Max and Steph enjoyed a romantic picnic on the docks and got lovey-dovey some more. Steph wished she could spend the night with Max, but she didn't want her parents to worry.
Bo and Hope arrested Martino, who insisted they had nothing on him. They produced Dr. Nusbaum's wallet, which they found on the thug who tried to shoot Steve — the thug who probably killed Nusbaum. Bo was sure the bullet that killed Nusbaum would be traced back to the thug's rifle and it would all lead to Martino. "You can't prove he works for me," said Martino. Ava noted she could and that she knew Martino was going after Patch. Ava went on about trusting Martino and her shrink, who was drugging her and trying to make her crazy. Angelo couldn't keep silent any longer. He confessed Martino had ordered Nusbaum to drug Ava. Ava realized why: Her father didn't want her to remember he'd killed her mother when she threatened to leave him. Martino spotted a gun and lunged for it. Bo sprang into action and shot him. Ava sobbed over her father's dead body. Hope comforted Bo, while Roman expressed his condolences to Ava and told her and Angelo not to leave town. They'd both need to make formal statements.
Back at Bo and Hope's house, Kayla phoned 911 as Steve rushed in. They both feared it was too soon for her to have their baby. The paramedics arrived and carted Kayla to the hospital. Later, Bo got a call, and he and Hope rushed off to be with Steve and Kayla.

Sami found EJ sitting in the DiMera study and said she wanted to apologize. EJ assumed it was for saying she didn't enjoy kissing him. Sami didn't want to discuss that. EJ said he was going back to bed; he had an appointment with Nicole in the morning. EJ's cell phone rang — it was Statesville Prison. Sami wondered if it was about Lucas' release. Sadly, it wasn't. EJ told Sami that Lucas didn't make the cut. Sami realized Lucas wasn't coming home and Allie would grow up without her father. She thanked EJ for trying to help. EJ offered to comfort Sami, who broke down in his arms. Sami said she was frustrated. She didn't have control over her life. EJ swore she did. She just couldn't control other people's lives. EJ said he was heading to bed, reiterating he was meeting Nicole in the morning. Sami asked what he saw in Nicole. EJ said it was what Nicole saw in him. "She thinks I'm a bit of all that," smirked EJ. "What woman wouldn't?" countered Sami. EJ told Sami he needed to know how she really felt. She was giving him mixed signals. If Sami wanted him to stop having a relationship with Nicole, she'd have to give him a reason. Sami moved in and gave EJ another sizzling kiss.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Chloe stumbled upon Victor, who was appalled she was still there since he'd asked her to leave. "Why would you want to force yourself somewhere where you're not wanted?" he asked. Chloe went on about Victor setting her up to make it look like she'd killed Brady. Victor said he knew Brady was divorcing her. Since they were over and done, what monumental act of audacity brought Chloe back to the mansion? "I invited her," interrupted Philip, insisting Chloe stayed put. Victor demanded a word alone with Philip. Philip called Victor on keeping his secret about Brady from him. Victor called Philip on the secret he was keeping — engineering a break-in at the DiMera mansion. Philip said he had a disc, but it was encrypted. He knew about it because he'd been monitoring the mansion and thought it had something to do with what Stefano did to John. Philip said he had someone working on decrypting it. Impressed, Victor decided it was time to let Philip start handling more of his business affairs. Philip promised not to let his father down. Victor left, returned with a leather portfolio, and handed it to Philip. "This is your legacy and your future," he said. Later, Chloe found Philip looking over the papers. He assured her she could stay put and shared his news about gaining more control of Kiriakis Enterprises. Philip delighted in his powerful new position.
Kayla begged Dr. Elman to make her contractions stop. It was too early for her to have her baby. The doc told Kayla to relax and let the medication she gave her take effect. Steve consoled Kayla. Outside, Hope phoned Stephanie, who was hanging out with Chelsea and discussing Daniel. Steph answered and was horrified to learn her mom was in labor. The gals raced to the hospital. While Hope comforted Steph, Bo checked with the doctors to see if Steph could see her mother. Back inside her room, Lexie said Kayla's contractions were coming closer. "I'm afraid the meds aren't doing anything," said Dr. Elman. Kayla freaked. If she gave birth now, her baby might not survive. Attendants wheeled in a preemie chamber for the baby-to-be. Dr. Elman instructed Kayla to push, as Lexie, Steve and Steph looked on. Outside, Bo brought Hope and Chelsea water as Chelsea wandered off, upset. (Flashback to Chelsea's conversation with Hope about Zack in the hospital.) When Chelsea returned, Hope told her Martino was killed earlier. Chelsea railed at Bo for getting into a gunfight. Meanwhile, Kayla finally delivered a baby boy. "Why isn't he crying?" sobbed Kayla. Lexie delivered the bad news: he wasn't breathing.
